Gehraiyaan trailer out: Deepika Padukone and Siddhant Chaturvedi-starrer is all about  infidelity by the sea

Amazon Prime Video has dropped the trailer for Gehraiyaan. Directed by Shakun Batra, the film explores romance, family and infidelity.

Alisha (Deepika Padukone) and Karan (Dhairya Karwa) are a Mumbai couple. Their lives are palpably strained—she's taking extra classes, he won't even take out the garbage. They go on a trip with Alisha's cousin, Tia (Ananya Panday), where Zain (Siddhant Chaturvedi), Tia's fiancé, opens up to Alisha. They hit it off, doubt and reluctance giving way to aggressive kissing over a bouncy track. "He's never at home!" curses Tia as Zain and Alisha draw nearer together.

Gehraiyaan mirrors Shakun's earlier works, characters caught in humdrum situations and wanting to get out. The mood, though, is considerably thicker, emotions lined with a darker undertone. It's like Zoya Akhtar Adult™ — the director's aquaphilia (so many waves shots) and familial reckonings undercut with more urgent clashing and fighting. Let's just hope the title—10-lettered, confident—matches up with the layering underneath. Less in doubt is the soundtrack, composed by Kabeer Kathpalia and Savera Mehta and penned by Kaushar Munir and Ankur Tiwari.

Gehraiyaan also features Nasseruddin Shah and Rajat Kapur in important roles. The drama is jointly produced by Viacom18 Studios and Dharma Productions in association with Jouska Films.

Speaking about the film, Deepika Padukone said: “Alisha, my character in Gehraiyaan is extremely close to my heart and certainly one of the most challenging characters I have portrayed on screen. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to play a role that was fun and challenging at the same time. Each of the characters’ struggles and arcs are real, raw and relatable."

Gehraiyaan releases on February 11 on Prime Video.
