September 28 marks the 97th birth anniversary of the late playback singer Lata Mangeshkar. The legendary singer passed away on February 6, 2022 at the age of 97. On the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his tributes to the late singer. 

Taking to his X page, PM Modi wrote, “On her birth anniversary, I pay my humble respects to the revered Lata Didi, who illuminated the name of our nation across the world with her divine singing talent. She not only adorned and enriched Bharatvarsha with her melodious notes but also steadfastly encouraged every endeavor linked to the prosperity of the country.” The prime minister further said Mangeshkar's unparalleled contribution to the world of Indian music will remain memorable for ages to come.

Among others, Jackie Shroff took to his X page to remember the legendary singer on the occasion.  Sharing a reel, with photos from her younger days underlined with her iconic song ‘Naam Gum Jaayega,’ Jackie captioned the post, “Remembering Lata Mangeshkar ji on her birth anniversary. Always in our hearts.”

Additionally, Dharma Productions took to their official page as well, to commemorate the singer. They captioned their post, “Always khush while listening to your voice! Remembering the legend, LataMangeshkar ji.” It is to be noted that Lata Mangeshkar sang the title track of Karan Johar’s 2001 film Kabhi Khush Kabhie Gham, which has since earned an iconic status. 

Lata, who began her singing career in 1942, gradually emerged as the most popular Indian playback singer with an astonishing career of over 70 years. She won the Bharat Ratna (2001), India's highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan (1969) and Padma Vibhushan (1999), besides being the recipient of 3 National Awards. In 1974, she became the first Indian playback singer to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in London, England.

Overall, in her career, Lata Mangeshkar sang more than 20000 songs.
