The Vvaan, the Sidharth Malhotra-Tamannaah Bhatia starrer which released in theatres yesterday, sprung quite a few surprise at the box office. Despite weak advance bookings and very little buzz prior to release, the film registered fairly strong numbers on day 1.

According to Sacnilk, The Vvaan collected Rs 8 crores nett on Friday. The occupancy in most of the major centres like Mumbai, Delhi, Surat, Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Lucknow have been in the range of 25-35 per cent, which is a promising figure. While 2026 has primarily been dominated by franchise movies, The Vvaan is one of the rare non-franchise films to have collected more than Rs 5 crores on day 1.

And yet, The Vvaan failed to surpass the opening day figures of films like Alpha and O’Romeo. While Alpha grossed 9.25 crores nett on day, O'Romeo collected Rs 8.5 crores nett.

Overall, The Vvaan stands at 12th position on the list of highest opening day collections so far.  Reportedly made on a budget of Rs 80 crores, the film also a disadvantage of stiff competition next week when Drishyam: The Conclusion arrives in theatres.

So it remains to be seen whether the film will pick up exponentially over the weekend, and recover most of its budget in week 1 itself. 

Directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra, and jointly produced by TVF, Balaji Telefilms and 11:11 Entertainment, The Vvaan also features prominent names like Sunil Grover, Anup Soni, Maniesh Paul, and Shweta Tiwari in the ensemble cast. 

In our review for the film, we noted, “There’s something so off about the tonality of almost everything in this film — be it the delivery, plot devices or the staging — that it feels deliberately parodic. For TVF, which made a parody video about Ekta Kapoor’s daily soap phenomenon, it’s a moment of full circle — the joke is now on them.”
