Vibe, Kunal Kemmu’s directorial, released in theatres on Friday, opening to somewhat dull figures on its opening day. Also starring Preity Zinta and Sparsh Shrivastava, Vibe marks Kunal’s second film as a director after the much-loved Madgaon Express (2024).

The film earned Rs 1.70 crores nett on day 1, according to Sacnilk. The occupancies in Mumbai were better than other centres, including Delhi-NCR by a slight margin, especially in the night shows. 

Considering the decent box office of Madgaon Express, and the gradual fanbase it acquired over the years, Vibe was expected to perform much better on opening day. However, with largely positive reviews from critics and audience, the wacky comedy is expected to pick up over the weekend. 

Produced by Kunal and Chirag Nihlani under Drongo Films, Vibe is made on an impressively economical budget of 40 crores, which should make its eventual box office journey somewhat smoother.

Vibe also performed significantly better than Daayra, the other major release this week starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran which barely touched 1-crore mark on Friday.

Also featuring debutant Vanshika Dhir, Yashpal Sharma, and Dinesh Lal Yadav ‘Nirahua’ in the supporting cast, Vibe centers on two inseparable friends whose ordinary, unassuming lives spiral into an unpredictable, high-energy adventure that pushes their survival instincts and friendship to the limit.

In our review for the film, we noted, “Vibe could’ve been a more irreverent parody if it wanted to be. Kunal has the writing chops, but is not ambitious enough, appearing too content with a string of uproarious one-liners that land well, but probably won’t stay with you outside the theatre.”
