On Friday night, journalist Sandhya Ravishankar shared a detailed post on her X page, accusing Netflix and the makers of recently-released Parineeti Chopra starrer Reporting Live for stealing a story based on her life as a journalist, and not giving her due credits for the same.
Incidentally, the protagonist in Reportive Live, played by Parineeti, was also named Sandhya. Taking to her X page, Sandhya tagged Netflix in her post as she penned addressing them, “The next time you want to name a reporter character Sandhya, show her uncovering illegal sand mining, create a Tamil villain, and pick bits & pieces from MY real life story which was pitched to you twice in 2022 and 2023, and not give me any credit at the least.... Think hard and well.”
Sandhya went on to criticise the film and Parineeti’s performance, and the film’s portrayal of newsroom, adding, “Thankfully it was a supremely crappy movie with ham performances and Parineeti Chopra was nothing like me. In fact she was nothing like any reporter & the newsroom portrayal was idiotic & amateurish.”
While claiming that the story was tweaked enough to escape a lawsuit by the makers, Sandhya demanded a public apology from Netflix as well as the writer-director Dhruv Tripathi, adding, “You owe me a public apology at the very least but I'm certain you have no moral fibre in you to do so. Shame on you all, especially the director-writer Dhruv Tripathi. Stealing other people's hard work and making money sneakily out of it.”
Dhruv Tripathi officially shared writing credits for Reporting Live with Mihir Jadhav. The supporting cast of the film included Deven Bhojani, Adil Hussain, Shekhar Suman, and Nassar.
In our review for the film, we noted, “Reporting Live is a beat by beat by the book journalism thriller. It’s predictable from the get go and still trudges on. The writing is so plain and lazy that a lot of times it felt like characters existed to be just stand-ins for the audience.”
