The trailer of Shanaya Kapoor headliner series Student Of The Year: After Dark was unveiled by the makers on Tuesday. Directed by Reema Maya, the show is a murder-thriller take on the Student Of The Year film franchise and is backed by Dharmatic Entertainment led by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla and Apoorva Mehta.

After Aayesha Malik (Shanaya Kapoor), a student of the elite St. Teresa’s Heritage School is found frozen and dead in an ice lake, her twin sister takes it upon herself to solve the mystery of her possible murder. Her suspects are Aayesha’s “jealous bestfriend” Tara, her “rejected lover” Rehaan, her “psycho roommate” Babydoll, and her “too perfect” boyfriend Sid. Everybody has their own share of secrets. The sister’s investigation leads her to a secret underground game called “student of the year” and Aayesha’s death might be linked to it.

Previously talking about the show in a statement to the press, Karan had said, "When I look at this new chapter, I see a phoenix rising. We began this franchise with big dreams in 2012 and now we’re breaking every rule we set. With Reema’s genre-defying direction and Shanaya’s powerful double-role performance, we’re setting the stage for something spectacular. Shanaya isn’t just stepping into the spotlight, she’s shattering it and the first look is just the tip of the iceberg."

Director Reema had added, "This isn’t going to be what you expect. It is Student Of The Year, stripped to its bones and reimagined as a thriller competition web-series. Karan Johar has put his faith in my voice and vision and I’m excited to have fun with this genre. The web series format is giving us a wide canvas for the conversations we want to have with our youth. We had so much fun with the music of the show. The cast is young and incredibly talented. Shanaya is a director’s actor - prepared and hardworking.”

The series will start streaming on JioHotstar from November 13.
