Among the many Hindi theatrical releases scheduled for October 23 was Sonakshi Sinha-Zaheer Iqbal starrer Tu Hai Meri Kiran. However, in a recent interim order, Bombay High Court restained the film’s release, while dealing with a plea filed by AND Movie Products.
Tu Hai Meri Kiran is being co-produced by AND Movie Products LLP v. Echelon Productions. Earlier, AND Movie had moved the Court contending that it had invested ₹8.85 crore under a March 2024 co-production agreement, which Echelon Productions failed to refund despite an expired timeline and a dishonoured cheque. The Bombay HC rejected the contention by Echelon contention, which stated that AND movie had acquiesced to the film’s release by actively collaborating on promotional posts on social media, observing that social media promotion cannot be construed as a waiver of any financial claims or exploitation rights.
In an interim order passed by October 19, Justice Amit Borkar directed Echelon to deposit ₹8.85 crore with 15 percent interest within three working days as security before proceeding with the release of the film. The restrain order remains until co-producer Echelon Productions deposits the said amount within three working days as security.
Further, Echelon was instructed to disclose all third-party exploitation agreements and restore the agreed producer credits within forty-eight hours.
It remains to be seen whether Tu Hai Meri Kiran will actually release in theatres tomorrow, although the bookings have been open. Written and directed by Karan Rawal, the thriller promises to tell the story of Samar (Zaheer), a simple-looking but obsessing young man who falls for Kiran (Sonakshi), a woman way out of his league, but refuses to take a ‘no’ from her. Struggling to cope with the rejection, Samar turns increasingly unstable as he makes Kiran’s life a living hell, stalking her in unimaginable ways, creating a dent in her personal relationships.
Borrows its title from an iconic song from 1993 film Darr, the film also features Ankit Gupta, Sherlin Seth, Zarina Wahab and Purnendu Bhattacharya in the ensemble cast.
