Luv Ranjan, who began his career with the sleeper hit Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011), a film that marked the debut for 5 actors, is again set to launch many new faces at once, with his upcoming production Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar. The youthful rom-com, set for theatrical release on October 23, features newcomers — Alisha Chopra, Sparsh Walia, Sakshi Vaidya, Kunal Vaid, Sargun Kaur Luthra and Tushar Chhibber — in the lead. The filmmaker recently spoke about the essence of launching debutants, and why its significant for the industry.
In an official statement, the filmmaker said, “How will new stars or directors be created if no one gives them a chance? People took a chance on me when I didn't know anyone in this city. You have to pay it forward to create new talent. When people ask, 'Why work with newcomers?' my answer is: 'Why not?'"
Addressing whether it is risky to bet on newcomers, he said, “No one can guarantee success today. Established stars can give you a ₹50 crore opening or an ₹8 crore opening depending on the content. But more importantly, if you don't bring in newcomers, where will the next generation of stars come from?" Further highlighting why Hindi cinema needs new faces for its ecosystem, he added, “There’s no lack of talent, but every six to seven years, you need a fresh wave of actors as current stars age. Unlike the 1990s, top stars today do one film every year or two. Having a reliable pool of new actors allows us to make more films."
Co-produced by Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg, Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar promises a fresh, relatable story about youth, love, and togetherness. At the box office, Pehla Pyaar Doosri Baar will clash against Udta Teer and Tu Hai Meri Kiran.
