On Monday, a fire erupted on the sets of reality show Pati Patni aur Panga, which is currency in its second season. Following the incident, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) have now demanded an FIR against the makers, including the producers and the channel (Colors TV). Additionally, AICWA has also demanded the resignation of the managing director of Film City, where the said incident occurred.
In an official statement shared on their X page, AICWA said, “There were no fire safety arrangements whatsoever on the set of Pati Patni Aur Panga Season 2, which is why the fire broke out and spread. A large number of workers and artists were working on a set that had been left completely unprotected.”
Other demands by AICWA include "a thorough, time-bound inquiry into how the fire started, why it spread, and why no fire safety was in place." and mandatory fire audits, fire safety staff and firefighting equipment on every shoot, with licences cancelled for non-compliance.
“Film City keeps burning and no one is ever held accountable. The studios stand inside Film City, and the management knew well that sets were running without basic fire safety. Fire after fire, year after year, thousands of workers and artists are pushed into danger by channels, producers and production houses that refuse to spend on basic fire safety to save a few rupees. The sets go up in flames, the poor workers pay the price, and those who profit walk away without a single consequence. Fires in Film City are not accidents. They are the result of greed, negligence and a system that has never punished the guilty,” the body wrote in their statement.
It is to be noted that the fire which broke out around 4pm on Monday, also spread to the adjoining sets of the MTV show Hustle, allegedly putting the lives of thousands of workers and artists in the complex at risk.
