On Friday, Sudhir Mishra shared some interesting details about his upcoming film Gandhi and My Mother, starring Manoj Bajpayee in the titular role and Waheeda Rahman as his onscreen mother. Taking to X, the filmmaker suggested that his film will not be a hagiography of Mahatma Gandhi and will explore a period from the freedom fighter's life that few people understand. "Gandhi was a man who could not leave himself alone. He listened to his critics: not as a courtesy, but as a man listens when he fears the critic may be right. He used what he heard to become someone he had not been. Think what you like of him. There has been almost no one like him," Sudhir shared.
According to Sudhir Mishra, Gandhi and My Mother will not sanctify its titular character. "What you will be watching is not a saint. That is the lie we tell so that we may sit still, and the sitting still is the crime. What you are watching is a man coming apart in public and refusing the mercy of doing it in private: furious, and not with the enemy," the filmmaker noted.
Interestingly, Sudhir also confirmed that his brother Sudhanshu Mishra played a part in Richard Attenborough’s Oscar-winning film Gandhi, starring Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley.
Coming back to Sudhir's original post, it excited his film's producer Anubhav Sinha. "I have been looking at your pictures from the set. It’s those of a happy baby. It’s those of a teenager in love. I have never seen you like this. And I have seen you in many moods you will agree," Anubhav shared. In response, the director noted that it has been an 'amazing' experience working with the 'great crew' and the cast, which also includes Saurabh Shukla.
