Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh has achieved yet another milestone by becoming the first South Asian artist to perform two consecutive sold-out nights at Madison Square Garden, during the New York leg of his AURA tour. The stadium has hosted performances by globally recognised singers such as Elton John, Madonna, Elvis Presley, and the boy band BTS.
Diljit was cheered on by the thousands of fans who packed the iconic venue over both nights. He also shared glimpses from the concert on his Instagram, while expressing his gratitude for the overwhelming support.
Diljit, in a recent interview with talk show host Jimmy Fallon, shared a personal story from tour. He spoke about the Komagata Maru incident of 1914, when people of the Sikh community faced racial discrimination and were denied entry into Vancouver and parts of the United Kingdom. He contrasted this history with his recent concert at Vancouver’s BC Place, where nearly 55,000 fans from around the world gathered to celebrate Punjabi music.
Diljit’s sold-out concert at Madison Square Garden marks a milestone in his rising global influence and the growing international presence of Punjabi music. His journey to worldwide stardom began with a breakthrough UK debut in 2014 at London’s OVO Arena Wembley. From historic appearances at Coachella to headlining massive North American stadium tours, including the celebrated Dil-Luminati and Aura World Tour, Diljit has built a diverse fanbase that stretches far beyond the Indian diaspora.
Diljit Dosanjh is set to return on stage on May 31 at Rogers Centre Stadium in Toronto, Canada.
