On Thursday, Tips Films issued an official statement about a suit filed by Puja Entertainment, over the music rights of a few films on which the two companies collaborated a few days ago. Reportedly, Puja Entertainment had filed a suit, claiming back music rights for those films.
Taking to their Instagram page, Tips Films posted, “Tips Music Limited has become aware of a suit filed by Puja Entertainment (India) Ltd. ("PEIL") before the Civil Judge (Senior Division), Katihar, Bihar.” Clarifying that they own the music rights, Tips Films added, “While formal copies of the order are awaited, Tips clarifies that it is the lawful owner of the music rights in question, supported by valid and binding agreements between the parties."
Raising questions on the complainant's intentions, Tips Films added, "The claims made by PEIL are strongly disputed and appear to be malicious, misconceived, and intended to tarnish the reputation and goodwill of Tips. Tips remains fully confident in defending its rights before the appropriate courts and shall take all necessary legal steps to protect its interest and ownership of rights.”
Meanwhile, according to some reports, The Court of Civil Judge (Senior Division)-I, Katihar has granted interim protection to Puja Entertainment in the dispute, directing parties to maintain status quo over the disputed works, observing that the absence of immediate relief could cause serious and irreparable injury to the plaintiff’s statutory and proprietary rights.
The issue came to light when a clip went viral on social last year, where the lead actors of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai — Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, and Pooja Hegde — could be seen dancing to the remixed version of the song ‘Chunri Chunri,’ a song that was originally composed for Puja Films’ 1999 movie Biwi No 1.
The films in question are Coolie No 1 (1996), Hero No 1 (1997), Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1998), Biwi No 1 (1999), Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya (2000) and Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai (2001).
