Ayushmann Khurrana’s upcoming film Pati Patni Aur Woh Do is set for theatrical release on May 15. Directed by Mudassar Aziz, the comedy also stars Sara Ali Khan, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Rakul Preet Singh in the lead cast. Recently, Ayushmann spoke about the Aamir Khan connection in the film, also expressing his admiration for the Lagaan actor and his comedy films.

For a sequence in the film, the makers used the ‘Aaj Na Chhodhunga Tujhe’ song from the 1990 Aamir Khan-Madhuri Dixit starrer Dil. Speaking about it, Ayushmann said, “We wanted a song that fit seamlessly into the hilarious world and theme of the film. ‘Aaj Na Chhodunga Tujhe’ felt perfect for the situation my character goes through.”

Ayushmann also pointed that Pati Patni Aur Woh Do is a situational comedy like many popular Aamir films like Andaz Apna Apna, Ishq, and Hum Hain Raahi Pyar Ke, adding, “These are films I loved watching growing up and can still watch any number of times even today! I love that I get to do a film that is essentially a hat-tip to these iconic comedies.”

Further expressing his admiration for Aamir Khan, the Andhadhun actor added, “I particularly love the way he has dabbled in this genre of situational comedy! He is a true master of the genre along with everything that he does.I love that there is an Aamir Khan connect in my film.It happened by chance and I’m glad it did.”

Pati Patni Aur Woh Do is Ayushmann's maiden collaboration with Mudassar, who has previously made films like Happy Bhag Jayegi, Khel Khel Mein and Mere Husband Ki Biwi.

At the box office, the comedy will clash against Sanjay Dutt starrer Aakhri Sawal.
