Director Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar: The Revenge has opened further discussion about Hindi cinema and its fascination with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, notorious for his involvement in the 1993 Mumbai bombings. The film not only refers to Dawood as 'Bade Sahab' but also mentions his real name as the character, played by Danish Iqbal, appears onscreen for the first time.

Interestingly, the Dawood Ibrahim reference in the Dhurandhar sequel has sparked some debate about Rishi Kapoor's portrayal of the same character in 2013's D-Day, directed by Nikkhil Advani. Director Nikkhil recently spoke about it in a conversation with Variety.

Interestingly, Nikkhil Advani disclosed that he and his family received death threats and lived under the protection of security personnel for three years since around the release of D-Day.

The filmmaker said that before the 2013 film's release, Dawood's team wanted him to delete a particular scene in the movie that they objected to. However, the director refused the don's request, only to contribute to a situation where he and his family received death threats, necessitating greater security for them.

Nikkhil also revealed that Mumbai police had his support and recalled getting a request for a meeting with Himanshu Roy, the late Joint Commissioner of Police, to talk about the situation. "I had some security for three years," the filmmaker disclosed before saying that his children were quite supportive of the idea of strengthening protection for them. He added that a security guy sat in the front seat of their vehicle, willing to protect them at the risk of getting a bullet himself, and that the threats to their lives stopped one day.

For the uninitiated, D-Day follows the hunt for the most wanted man in India by a group of undercover agents.
