Kunal Kemmu’s directorial debut Madgaon Express, which released in 2024, was one of the most acclaimed films of that year. Since then, there have been speculations about whether makers are planning Madgaon Express 2. Kunal Kemmu recently confirmed that a sequel for his well-acclaimed comedy, which starred Avinash Tiwary, Divyenndu and Pratik Gandhi, is in development.
In an exclusive conversation with News18, Kunal said, “Yes, it’s in the works. I’ve finished writing Madgaon Express 2. When I wrote the first film, there were some loose ends. There was an idea of where it’s going to go.” The actor also added that he was already in conversation with his producers about a sequel, only if it flows organically. “They also didn’t know about till the time I finished it. I don’t want to do a sequel with any story just because the first one worked. Only when I finished it, I told them that I’ve written it. You always plan. You’ll only make a sequel if a film works,” he said.
Reportedly made on a budget of Rs 30 crores, Madgaon Express maintained a slow but steady hold at the box office for many weeks, grossing nearly 57 crores, according to Sacnilk.
At the same time, Kunal confirmed that his priority right now is Vibe, his next comedy feature which also features Preity Zinta in a major role. “All my energy is focused on that,” he said. Vibe was announced at the Prime Video 2026 slate event, held in March, and is set for theatrical release on September 18 this year.
Kunal also recently made his debut as a reality series host with the Prime Video series Alliance, which began streaming today.
