Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, the comedy entertainer starring Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde did not live up to the expectations for its opening day figures at box office. Produced by Tips Films, HJTIHA is reportedly the last film for legendary comedy filmmaker David Dhawan.

According to Sacnilk, the Varun Dhawan starrer grossed Rs 9 crore on Friday at the domestic box office. Besides Mumbai, HJTIHA showed the highest occupancy in Hyderabad and Bengaluru, 47% and 40% respectively.

While there was not a major difference between occupancy in afternoon and evening shows, the film picked up by nearly 40 percent in its night shows. That gives a decent hope to the makers to register spike over the weekend. The film could also benefit from its soundtrack, which consists of remakes of two popular 90s tracks.

Overall, the film has received mixed to negative reviews from critics. In our review for the film, we noted, “HJTIHH wishes to be like a leave-your-brain-at-home rip-roaring fun fest but it actually becomes a relentless hurt-your-head mishmash of random chaos and broken humour.”
