The trailer of the Sunny Deol, Preity G Zinta, and Shabana Azmi starrer Partition action-drama Batwara 1947 was unveiled by the makers on Tuesday. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the film has been written by him along with Asghar Wajahat on whose play Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai the film is based.
Batwara 1947 has been produced by Aamir Khan Productions and has music by AR Rahman with lyrics by Javed Akhtar.
Set during the time of Partition, the film tells a story of a Muslim family, headed by Sunny's character, with Preity playing his wife and Karan Deol playing his son. After Independence, the family is forced to go to Pakistan but the house they are allotted already has a resident, an elderly Punjabi woman (Shabana) who refuses to leave. As tensions rise in the Muslim town, Sunny takes it upon himself to save a Punjabi woman from fanatics.
The film also stars Ali Fazal and Abhimanyu Singh.
Batwara 1947 is scheduled to release during the Independence Day weekend on August 14 where it will clash with Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2.
