Alpha, directed by Shiv Rawail and starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari in the lead roles, got off to a solid start at the box office on its release day. According to data from the tracker Sacnilk, the film earned a gross collection of 16.10 crore from theatres worldwide on Friday. Meanwhile, on Saturday, it saw a major rise in its box office collection. Sacnilk data shows that the film earned 21.8 crore on the second day of its release at the global box office. This takes the overall collection to 37.90 crore, according to the tracker's data.

In net terms, the film earned 9.25 crore and 11.50 crore from theatres in India on the first day and the second day, respectively. The above data corresponds with the information from producer Yash Raj Films, although it reports a net collection of 11.75 crore for day two.

Revealing the Alpha box office collection for India earlier this Sunday, YRF wrote in the caption, "Seems like everyone had an action-packed Saturday." The continued performance of the film will determine its fate in theatres.

Meanwhile, the film has ostensibly done really well at the box office so far, even though it has received mostly negative reviews from critics and audiences. On Saturday, filmmaker Karan Johar defended the film and argued that its box office performance is a sign of the audience's acceptance. According to Karan, the performance suggests that "the audience is way above online negativity and they are the true warriors..." and that "the stardom and theatrical pull and unquestionable talent of Alia Bhatt and the impact of a big screen spectacle is unbeatable."

It is worth noting that Karan, who urged the audience to ignore the negative reviews and watched the film in theatres, directed Alia Bhatt in her debut film, Student of the Year.
