Netflix faces flak for censoring Dhurandhar and trimming its runtime

Netflix has muted censored words and trimmed the film's runtime

Remember when Dhurandhar released in theatres, some people expressed their concerns over the runtime of the film being too long for them to spend in the cinema halls? At the same time, some shied away from the film for its R-rated violence, whereas others objected to its alleged pro-right stance. With its OTT premiere, the tables have turned for the Aditya Dhar directorial, at least in terms of the arguments over its runtime and violence.

Netflix has trimmed its runtime and subjected it to plenty of censorship, leaving fans fuming over the streamer's decision. Audiences are expressing their displeasure at the streaming platform's decision to mute certain words, despite them being already subjected to changes by the Censor Board.

Many netizens questioned the changes in the OTT version of Dhurandhar, especially considering the fact that the film is A-rated for its violence and swear words and has already been screened in theatres. Some even argue that Netflix did not make such changes to similarly violent films such as Kabir Singh and Animal. Many of them are now calling for Netflix to release the original version of the film that hit theatres.

Speaking of which, the film continues its theatrical run even as it has made its digital premiere. The other day, it became the first Indian film to gross over 1000 crore at the domestic box office with a release in only one language. According to Sacnilk, while films such as KGF: Chapter 2, Pushpa 2: The Rule and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion also crossed the 1000-crore mark at the India box office, it is worth noting that they also had releases in other regional languages. Interestingly, the second part to Aditya's film is set to hit theatres in the summer with dubs in major regional languages as well.

Meanwhile, the fan fury over the Netflix censorship and edits is set to continue for a few more days.
