We often say, "Money does the talking," which seems to be the theme behind Vijay Sethupathi's upcoming film, Gandhi Talks. The teaser for the film, which also stars Arvind Swami, Aditi Rao Hydari and Siddharth Jadhav in lead roles, was unveiled on Friday, on the occasion of Vijay Sethupathi's birthday.
The teaser prominently features Indian currency, featuring Mahatma Gandhi, being circulated for various under-the-table dealings across India. Vijay Sethupathi plays someone who cosplays for a living and doesn't seem to be too well-off. Aditi Rao Hydari plays his love interest in the film.
Directed by Kishor Pandurang Belekar, best known for helming Marathi films such as Sa Sasucha and Yeda, the film will be released on January 30, coinciding with Mahatma Gandhi's death anniversary. The film has music composed by AR Rahman.
Announced in 2021, the film went on floors in 2022. After completion of filming and editing, Gandhi Talks was the first silent film played at the 23rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa in 2023. When the film was screened during IFFI 2023, Vijay Sethupathi shared that the film "brings out the dichotomy between Gandhi on currency notes and the Gandhi whose ideals they (people) wish to imbibe."
According to the official synopsis, the film shows a young, unemployed graduate, Mahadev, whose struggle to land a job through any means possible has him cross paths with a businessman and petty thief. The film also reportedly draws references from Hindu mythology and the story of Samudra Manthan.
Gandhi Talks was created by ZEE Studios in collaboration with KYOORIUS, Pincmoon and Movie Mill Entertainment. Producers of the film are Rajesh Kejriwal, Gurpal Sachar, Umesh Kumar Bansal, Meerra Chopraa, and Kishor P Belekar, with Anil Bhandari serving as a co-producer. Gandhi Talks will feature music composed by AR Rahman, cinematography by Karan B Rawat and editing by Ashish Mhatre.
