Anurag Kashyap has already become a familiar name to those in South India because of his work as a director and as an actor. Anurag recently made his debut in Malayalam cinema with Rifle Club, directed by Aashiq Abu. He has contributed to other films in Malayalam, such as by serving as the Hindi dialogue writer for director Geetu Mohandas and Nivin Pauly's Moothon and as a presenter for Manju Warrier's Footage. Anurag recently hinted at the prospect of directing a film in Hindi and/or Malayalam.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, the filmmaker said, "I have written a film. I want to make it. It can be a Hindi or a Malayalam film. I have asked the actor." The director also shared that he has spoken to an actor and asked whether he would like to do the film in Hindi and/or Malayalam. He called it a 40-page screenplay and suggested that it would be an independent film.

Anurag has written a different film as well and has talked about it with another actor. "What is most important is the budget, but this is the film that I want to make," he said.

Anurag's latest comments have come not long after he expressed his appreciation for films such as Thudarum, Rekhachithram, and Eko. Speaking to Tried and Refused Productions, Anurag called Tharun Moorthy's Thudarum a realistic film and made a special note of how a big star such as Mohanlal is open to playing the role of a taxi driver. He said that such a film is not possible in Hindi because of the industry's obsession with stars. "Here, if you say the hero is a taxi driver who wears a lungi, they will say no. Here, all designers make clothes, and you cannot make a film like that," the director shared.
