Hot on the heels of Kennedy's long-awaited premiere in India, through ZEE5, director Anurag Kashyap is soon set to have another release. Only, this time around, it is a theatrical release. Earlier this Friday, the makers of the director’s film Bandar, starring Bobby Deol, announced that it will hit theatres worldwide on May 22, Friday.
The film is written by Sudip Sharma and Abhishek Banerjee. It marks Bobby Deol's first major role in Hindi after 2023’s Animal, opposite Ranbir Kapoor, which earned him much appreciation from audiences back then. Since then, the actor has had key roles opposite Suriya in Kanguva, Nandamuri Balakrishna in Daaku Maharaj, and Pawan Kalyan in Hari Hara Veera Mallu, besides his Housefull 5 and War 2 cameos.
Bandar also stars Sanya Malhotra, Saba Azad, Sapna Pabbi, Raj B Shetty, Sukant Goel, Aamir Aziz, among others. It brings Indrajith, Pritjviraj Sukumaran's brother, back to the Hindi film industry after 2010’s The Waiting Room.
The film had its world premiere at last year's Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). It follows an actor (Bobby Deol) with his popularity waning even as he faces a major setback in life as a woman accuses him of rape. He goes to jail for the alleged crime. The latest poster for the film shows Bobby's character behind bars. Recently, Bobby said that his role in the film is outside of his comfort zone as an actor.
The film is produced by Nikhil Dwivedi alongside Saffron Mediaworks and has ZEE Studios as its distributor. Distributor ZEE Studios is set to release it in theatres worldwide. Notably, the studio has also backed Anurag's film Kennedy, which became available for streaming on ZEE5 earlier this Friday. Kennedy has opened to mostly positive reviews from critics.
