Sai Tamhankar, who is known for her work in Hunterrr, Mimi and others, will next be seen in Nagraj Popatrao Manjule’s directorial series Matka King, that will begin streaming on Friday, April 17. In the period crime-drama led by Vijay Varma, Sai plays Barkha, the wife of protagonist Brij Bhatti. Sai recently spoke about her role and what makes it unique.
In an official statement, Sai reflected on her character, adding, "Barkha is a fiery woman. Generally, when you play someone's wife, the impression is, 'Oh, it's just the wife's character.' But this woman has her own world and her own voice, and she exercises that voice. She's not burdened by her husband's popularity, glamour, or money, has her own thought process and own world, and keeps her individuality intact. She is someone with a spine."
Further speaking about Barkha’s journey as the show progress, Sai noted, "Initially, she's really attracted to the glam, the popularity he's (Brij Bhatti) gaining, and the money that's coming in. But then slowly, after seeing all this noise, she somehow ends up finding her own path. And that's what Barkha's journey is, it starts outwards and ends up inwards. It's very interesting to watch that. The most important thing for me was how she develops as a person through this journey, and her development is quite interesting. I'm a fan of Barkha."
For Matka King, Nagraj Manjule shared writing and creation credits with Abhay Koranne. The lead cast includes Kritika Kamra, Sai Tamhankar, Siddharth Jadhav, Bhupendra Jadawat, and Gulshan Grover, while actors like Bharat Jadhav, Girish Kulkarni, Jamie Lever, Kishor Kadam, Cyrus Sahukar, Arpita Sethia, Ishtiyak Khan, Sanjivv Jotangia, and Simran Ashwini too will be seen in key roles.
