The trailer of upcoming Prime Video series Matka King was unveiled by the makers on Tuesday. Starring Vijay Varma in the titular role, the show has been directed by Fandry (2013) and Sairat (2016) director Nagraj Popatrao Manjule and is slated for its premiere on April 17.
Matka King tells the story of Brij Bhatti, a common cotton trader who wants to rise above the class barriers made by the system, and creates the Matka game, finding loopholes in the legal system around him and the game becomes a ray of hope for all commoners like him.
However, apart from navigating the law, Brij Bharti aka the Matka King also finds himself dealing with the moral complexities of being responsible for making as well as ruining many lives under the garb of hope and promise of a rags-to-riches rise for everyone like him.
The trailer ends on an intriguing note, by introducing a renowned underworld figure setting his stakes in the Matka game that drives the city. Co-created by Nagraj and Abhay Koranne, Matka King promises to be a pacy, evocative and stylish crime-drama, set against the backdrop of Bombay of the 60s and 70s.
Bankrolled under Roy Kapur Films, Aatpat, and SMR Entertainment, Matka King also features prominent actors like Gulshan Grover, Jamie Lever, Simran Ashwini, Sai Tamhankar, Kritika Kamra, Siddharth Jadhav and Girish Kulkarni among others. Among primary crew members, the series also has Nitin Baid as the editor and Amit Trivedi who has composed a few songs for the show.
