Previously, we reported that a plea has been filed in the Madras High Court seeking a ban on the release of the film Dhurandhar The Revenge in Tamil Nadu. Reportedly, the chief justice's bench of the High Court has now dismissed the public interest litigation.

The petition requested a ban on screening of Dhurandhar 2, starring Ranveer Singh, in Tamil Nadu until May 4, when the results of the Legislative Assembly election are scheduled to be declared. The petitioner is said to have argued that the film should be banned in Tamil Nadu amidst the model code of conduct, as it revolves around political issues.

However, the Chief Justice stated that the petitioner had only made a general accusation and had not specified which parts of the film violated the model code of behaviour. Additionally, the bench stated that the petitioner had not contested the Central Board of Film Certification's certificate.

When the petition was filed, Vijay's Jana Nayagan had been withheld from being censored by the CBFC and had been sent to the Election Commission of India, citing the model code of conduct as a reason. The CBFC said that the election commission has to assess the film's political content, as the elections are due in a month.

Set against the gritty backdrop of Lyari in Karachi—an area historically associated with gang conflicts—the Dhurandhar franchise blends fictional storytelling with real-world events such as the Kandahar hijacking, the 2001 Parliament attack, and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

While the first instalment focused on covert intelligence operations, the sequel delves deeper into the journey of Ranveer’s character. It traces the transformation of Jaskirat Singh Rangi into Hamza Ali Mazari, mapping his rise within Karachi’s underworld while unpacking his origins as a covert operative.

Dhurandhar The Revenge also features performances by Arjun Rampal and Rakesh Bedi, rounding out a cast that has been widely appreciated as the film continues its successful theatrical run.
