The first glimpse of Rama, played by Ranbir Kapoor, in the upcoming mythological epic Ramayana was unveiled by the makers on Thursday. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film has been produced by Namit Malhotra.

In stunning visuals, the teaser opens with Rama, as we see him from behind, standing on the edge of a cliff. Then we see him entering a palace amidst a shower of petals. Ranbir is finally revealed as Rama, holding a golden bow. In blink-and-miss glimpses we see him slaying demons and walking through Dandakaranya forest during his 14 year exile. Arun Govil is seen as Rama's father King Dashratha. Ravi Dubey as Lakshman and Sai Pallavi as Sita are also seen, but in a out of focus background.

As the glimpse ends, a king is seen from behind, charging towards a vividly VFXed Pushpak Vimana. It's a tease of Yash as the demon king Ravana.

The impressive visuals are by DNEG, a VFX company which has won 8 Academy Awards for works on films like Inception, Interstellar and the Dune films.

Ramayana also stars Sunny Deol as Hanumana. The film's music has been composed by AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer.

Talking about the film, director Nitesh said, “Ramayana’s greatness lies in its emotional richness. At its heart, it is not just about good and evil, but about choices, consequences, and the weight of doing what is right."

On playing Lord Rama, Ranbir Kapoor said, "I don’t think I am here to represent Rama. I am here to learn from him. There is a simplicity and purity to him that is very rare; and trying to understand and imbibe that has been a deeply humbling experience.”

Namit Malhotra added "The power of Rama’s story is not in what he conquers, but in what he lets go of. He represents a standard that is not easy, not convenient; but necessary. He chooses duty over desire, truth over comfort, and sacrifice over self."

Ramayana will be in two parts, with the first one scheduled for Diwali release this year, the next will come on the occasion of the same festival in 2027.
