After the Indian cricket team’s victory over Pakistan in the Asian Cup Final yesterday, PM Narendra Modi congratulated the team by comparing it to Operation Sindoor. Taking to X, Modi wrote, “Operation Sindoor on the games field. Outcome is the same - India wins! Congrats to our cricketers.” Many social media users have criticised the Prime Minister’s comparison, including actor Shreya Dhanwanthary.

The actor, known for playing Sucheta Dalal in SonyLIV’s iconic series Scam 1992, replied to PM Modi’s X post. “Sir, with respect, this is very tone deaf,” wrote the actor. While some have expressed support for Shreya’s view, others on social media criticised her, with some posts describing her as “anti-national”. The actor tends to speak out on political and social issues. She has also supported online discussions criticising India’s decision to play against Pakistan in the tournament, a debate stemming from cross-border tensions following recent events such as the terrorist attack in Pahalgam.

For the uninitiated, the term 'Operation Sindoor' refers to the military operation by India against terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir in response to the Pahalgam attack.

Also known for her role in Prime Video’s series The Family Man, Shreya was last seen in writer-director Sabbir Khan’s horror film Adbhut, co-starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Diana Penty.
