Aamir Khan on Mahabharata adaptation: It's not a film but a 'yagna'

He added that "if all goes well," he would begin working on the project this year

Aamir Khan has been touting the film adaptation of Mahabharata as his passion project for a long time now, but production on it is yet to start. In a recent conversation with Game Changers with Komal Nahta, Aamir spoke about his plan for a Mahabharata adaptation while answering a fan question concerning it. A fan asked Aamir why there has not been a film based on the mythological epic, despite Ramayana being in the making with Ranbir Kapoor in the lead. In his reply, Aamir said that he has been "making Mahabharata in his mind for the last 25-30 years" now. "My work has already started from the inside" shared the actor. Aamir also said that he hopes the film would become real soon while calling it "his life's most important project". He added that "if all goes well," he would begin working on the project this year. "In the next month or two, the initial writing process will start, but it is a time-consuming process. Mahabharat is not a film, it is a yagna, so you have to be prepared for that," he said.

The actor's latest comments about the project come shortly after he suggested in a conversation with podcaster Raj Shamani that he would call it a day after Mahabharata. Earlier, the actor-filmmaker told The Hollywood Reporter India that he is thinking of it as a project with multiple films with more than one director, with production being done simultaneously like The Lord of The Rings franchise.
