Aamir Khan’s much-awaited collaboration with Rajkummar Hirani for the Dadasaheb Phalke biopic has been put on hold after the actor requested the writer-director to rewrite some portions in the script.
According to reports, Aamir listened to a detailed narration of the film by Rajkummar and writer Abhijat Joshi recently. The actor appreciated the research and emotions of the story but felt that it lacks comedic touches. The film’s script was reportedly in development for nearly four years and a Los Angeles based VFX studios had already designed some recreations of the period.
A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Aamir felt that the script didn’t have enough elements to make it suitable for a theatrical release. He expected Raju and Abhijat to follow their usual approach of blending laughter with emotion and drama. But the script lacked comedy, which raised doubts in Aamir’s mind, prompting him to ask Raju to rewrite it.”
As per the report, Rajkummar and Abhijat were shocked with the response of Aamir. “The film, which was scheduled to begin production in October 2025, is no longer on track to go on floors next month. Everything is currently at a standstill, and Aamir has already begun exploring other scripts, hearing stories from across industries,” said the source.
An official confirmation on the film’s future is awaited.
Earlier this year, while promoting his last release, Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir had confirmed doing the biopic. It was intended to be the third collaboration between Aamir and Rajkummar after 3 Idiots (2010) and PK (2014).
