Problems continue to mount for Vivek Agnihotri's upcoming film The Bengal Files. After a shadow ban in Bengal and death threats for the filmmaker, the movie has been facing issues with its overseas release.

Starring Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumaar and Simratt Kaur in pivotal roles, the film was scheduled to hit theatres worldwide on September 5, but it looks like the release may be delayed in overseas markets due to pending censorship approval process.

The production team has confirmed that the film has not yet received clearance in Mauritius, with the censor board’s decision still pending. As a result, the film will not be released in the country until further notice.

In the UAE, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong, The Bengal Files is being reviewed by local censorship authorities. Although the above-mentioned countries have strict regulations for politically-sensitive content, no objections have been raised so far.

In India, actor-producer Pallavi Joshi wrote to President Droupadi Murmu, seeking her support for the release of the film in West Bengal. She alleged that the Trinamool Congress, led by CM Mamata Banerjee has been threatening exhibitors to prevent them from screening the film in the state.

The film is the third part of the trilogy of films that include, The Tashkent Files (2019) and The Kashmir Files (2022) and tells the story of Direct Action Day and the 1946 Calcutta killings.

The Bengal Files is backed by Abhishek Agarwal along with Pallavi Joshi. It is presented by Tej Narayan Agarwal and I Am Buddha. It is shot by Attar Singh Saini and edited by Shankh Rajyadhyaksha.
