Following up to Indian Women’s Cricket Team’s historic World Cup win, R Balki’s sports-drama Ghoomer, starring Saiyami Kher and Abhishek Bachchan, will be re-releasing in theatres this Friday (November 7). It also features Angad Bedi and Shabana Azmi.
Originally released on August 18, 2023, Ghoomer tells the story of a batsman, played by Saiyami, who strives to ace at balling after losing her right arm in an accident. She gets trained by Abhishek Bachchan, who plays a cynical, no-nonsense and perpetually drunk cricket coach.
Directed by R Balki and produced by Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, Abhishek Bachchan, Gauri Shinde, Wg Cdr Ramesh Pulapaka (Retd) and Anil Naidu, the film captures resilience, mentorship, and the indomitable spirit that defines Indian cricket.
Speaking about the re-release, director Balki said, “I am thrilled that Ghoomer is releasing again to celebrate the incredible achievement of our women cricketers. The film was always a tribute to women’s cricket and the resilience of women cricketers. And they did it at the same stadium where Ghoomer was shot. Two matches, one fiction, one fact, on the same pitch. I can’t wait to see audience reactions again.”
