Anurag Kashyap recently spoke about dealing with a big star who had seven managers. When the filmmaker tried contacting the star to work on a film, he got a message from his managers asking him to not speak to the star directly. This led him to ultimately quit the project.
During a conversation with on the YouTube channel Game Changers, Anurag spoke about the rising entourage costs. “Make-up is a department in a film, but now every individual actor has their own make-up artist. My film Nishaanchi had one make-up artist with two assistants, and they did the make-up for the whole team,” he said.
He added, “In Gangs of Wasseypur, all the actors used to share one vanity van and the rest would sit outside on chairs. These days, one actor has three vanity vans — one for meetings, one to take rest in, and one for their assistants.”
Anurag then spoke of the star and how he had to deal with his team. When the director reached out to the star to conduct a language workshop, Anurag got messages from his managers. “The actor did not respond to me, but seven of his managers came to me. They told me, ‘How can you message the actor like this? You can’t do this.’ There were seven people who were sitting there to decide and discuss everything. I left the film. I had written the script, but I gifted it to them. I can’t take his name. He is a big actor.”
Meanwhile on the work front, Anurag’s last release was the crime-drama, Nishaanchi, which came out in theatres on September 19 earlier this year. His other film, Bandar, had its screening at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
