Celebrated Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi, known for helming films like Children of Heaven (1997) and The Color of Paradise (1999), has arrived in Mumbai to finalise an upcoming Indo-Iranian film collaboration.
Majidi is working with Shershaah (2021) producers, Shabbir Boxwala, Ajay Shah & Himanshu Gandhi of Kaash Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. As per a press release, the film is said to be a “emotionally rich drama” that will blend Majidi’s “humanist storytelling with the heart and soul of Indian cinema”.
Currently, the project is in pre-production with key discussions underway to finalise the script, casting, and schedule. It is expected to go on floors later this year. An official announcement will follow soon.
Majidi made his Indian film debut with the Ishaan Khatter and Malavika Mohanan starrer Beyond The Clouds (2017). It told the story of a drug dealer whose sister gets picked up by cops while trying to save him.
Majidi’s last Iranian film, Sun Children, was presented at the competition at the 77th Venice International Film Festival and was also selected as Iran’s entry for the Best International Film at the 93rd Academy Awards, where it made it to the shortlist of 15 films.
