Ishaan Khatter and Bhumi Pednekar starrer rom-com series The Royals is coming up with a second season. The Netflix show has been written and developed by Neha Veena Sharma, directed by Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana and produced by Rangita and Ishita Pritish Nandy.
Netflix India took to Instagram on Wednesday to make the announcement. They shared a poster from the series along with the caption, “Old money, new blood and a new season is in the works. The Royals Season 2 is coming soon, only on Netflix.”
The first season of the show, which released earlier this month, had an ensemble cast of Zeenat Aman, Dino Morea, Sakshi Tanwar, Nora Fatehi, Milind Soman, Chunky Pandey, Vihaan Samat, Kavya Trehan, Sumukhi Suresh, Udit Arora, Lisa Mishra and Luke Kenny.
Earlier, in an interview with Filmfare, Ishaan had hinted about a second season of the series. When Lisa, who plays Nikki in The Royals, jokingly suggested that the only thing left for Ishaan Khatter’s character was “launching out of a helicopter," Ishaan quickly responded with, “I would do that in Season 2."
The first season wasn’t favourably received by the critics. It was also subject to a memefest on social media. Our review of the series read: “It isn’t difficult to ascertain that the makers are going for that trashy-comedy tone but to do that without smart writing is a plan gone wrong. Much of its show of emotions feels accidental, not adding much to our understanding of the characters. What we get as a result are eight episodes that are perennially confused about what to be, how to be and how much to be.”
