Diljit Dosanjh’s Panjab ’95 will not be releasing on February 7 as it has been delayed again by the makers due to ‘circumstances beyond control.’ The film, directed by Honey Trehan, is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Kalra, who exposed Punjab police’s unlawful killings and secret cremations of Sikh youth during militancy in the state. He was kidnapped and murdered in 1995.
Diljit took to Instagram stories to make the announcement and wrote, “We are very sorry, and it pains us to inform you that the movie Punjab ’95 will not release on 7th Feb due to circumstances beyond our control.” Director Honey also shared the same message.
The film’s teaser was unveiled last week, which gave a glimpse into its grim world where people are dying in mysterious circumstances. Diljit’s character, Jassi, investigates and decides to bring the truth of the matter in front of everyone. It also stars Arjun Rampal, Jagjeet Sandhu, Geetika Vidya Ohlyan, and Suvinder Vicky in pivotal roles.
The film was awaiting clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for over the last two years. As per reports, the CBFC had suggested over 120 cuts in the film owing to its sensitive subject matter.
Panjab ‘95 is shot by acclaimed cinematographer KU Mohanan and edited by A Sreekar Prasad. It is produced by Ronnie Screwvala, Honey Trehan, and Abhishek Chaubey.
