The teaser of Diljit Dosanjh’s Panjab ‘95 was unveiled by the makers on Friday. Directed by Honey Trehan, who has co-written it with Niren Bhatt and Utsav Maitra, the film is set to be released on February 7. It also has Arjun Rampal in a prominent role. The film is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Kalra, who exposed unlawful killings, secret cremations by the Punjab police.
The teaser opens with a voiceover of Arjun, as he describes the turmoiled history of Punjab, right from Operation Blue Star, the assassination of Indira Gandhi and the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. “Why is Panjab suffering?”, he asks. Diljit’s character, Jassi, investigates the death of some people, died under mysterious circumstances. He decides to bring the truth of the matter in front of everyone.
Sharing the teaser on X, Diljit wrote, “Releases in cinemas internationally only on 7th February. Full movie, no cuts”. The film had been awaiting to get cleared from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for over the last two years. As per reports, the CBFC had suggested over 120 cuts in the film owing to its sensitive subject matter.
The film is shot by acclaimed cinematographer KU Mohanan and edited by A Sreekar Prasad. It is produced by Ronnie Screwvala, Honey Trehan and Abhishek Chaubey.
