Director Vikramaditya Motwane started his career by assisting Sanjay Leela Bhansali in films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) and Devdas (2002). In a recent interview, Vikramaditya spoke about working with Shah Rukh Khan in the latter. Speaking about the experience, the Trapped (2016) director described SRK as “magnificent” and said that his mind works “round the clock.”
Recalling an anecdote from sets of Devdas, Vikramaditya told The Lallantop, “I will tell you one incident about the actor. We were shooting the climax of Devdas where Shah Rukh’s character dies while Aishwarya comes running to him. Shah Rukh was lying down under a tree. Suddenly, he asked one of the assistants if we could get him some honey. We were all clueless. Yet, we brought it to him. When we did, he took some of it and applied over his face.”
He added, “He did it to get flies on his face, like flies are sitting on a dying man’s face. This was completely his idea.”
The filmmaker said that it is usually the duty of a director to think of things that can enhance a scene, but Shah Rukh never shies away from making changes to improve a scene. He said, “The man’s mind is constantly working to think how he can make the moment better. And that is Shah Rukh Khan. He does very small things in films that make great difference. Plus, he makes everybody feel very special.”
On the work front, Vikramaditya’s latest series Black Warrant is currently streaming on Netflix.
