Kangana Ranaut reveals Emergency's trailer date

The film was mired with several issues, like censorship and alleged misrepresentation of the Sikh community

Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut on Saturday announced the trailer date of her upcoming film Emergency, ahead of the film's release on January 17. The film was earlier scheduled for a release on September 6, 2024.

The actor wrote a post on her Twitter saying, "50 years since India’s darkest hour—The Emergency. Unveil the untold story of India’s most powerful woman and the incident that changed the nation forever." She added that the trailer of the film is based on one of the biggest abberations in an otherwise democratic India committed by the then prime minister Indira Gandhi.

The film was mired with several issues, like censorship and alleged misrepresentation of the Sikh community.

The film is directed by Kangana and is based on the life of the late prime minister Indira Gandhi, who had imposed a nationwide emergency in 1975. It also stars Anupam Kher, Satish Kaushik, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade and Vishak Nair. Noted writer Ritesh Shah has penned the screenplay and dialogue of the film.
