Earlier, we reported that director Chidambaram, best known for helming the Malayalam film Manjummel Boys, is set to make his Hindi debut with a project backed by Phantom Studios. Providing an update about the film, the director recently revealed in an interview that it will be a gangster drama. The cast and crew are yet to be finalised.

Chidambaram made his directorial debut in Malayalam cinema with the critically acclaimed hit Jan.E.Man in 2021. His second directorial venture, Manjummel Boys, based on a true incident, was released last year to rave reviews. The film, now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar, is reportedly the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time, earning over Rs 200 crores globally, according to the makers. It also achieved the distinction of being the highest-grossing Malayalam film in Tamil Nadu.

The makers of Manjummel Boys, including producer and lead actor Soubin Shahir, are currently caught in legal trouble after the Enforcement Directorate booked them for financial frauds. IT raids were also conducted recently at their offices, following allegations of inflating ticket collection figures for money laundering purposes.
