Ahead of the release of their theatrical debut Loveyapa, Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor can be seen dancing in viral videos during the film’s promotions. Netizens have also been trolling the duo, criticising Junaid’s dancing skills and the lack of chemistry and awkwardness between Junaid and Khushi.
Recently in a conversation, Junaid admitted that he is a “really bad” dancer and revealed that filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan, who choreographed the song ‘Rehna Kol’ in Loveyapa, cancelled his performance and asked him to sit and watch Khushi perform.
In a conversation with comedian Bharti Singh and her husband Haarsh Limbachiyaa, Junaid said, “Farah ma’am cancelled our dance. During rehearsals, her assistants taught us the steps. But when she saw me perform, she decided to keep only Khushi’s dance and cancelled my part. She asked me to perform in front of her, watched me, and said, ‘Tujhse nahi hoga, tu chalke aa. Khushi se dance hoga, tu baithke dekh isko‘(You can’t dance, just walk. Khushi will dance, you just sit and watch her).”
The actor further said that although he loves dancing, he is not good at it. He also recalled how he trained extensively for a dance sequence in his debut film Maharaj (2024).
“I had to do garba in Maharaj. I rehearsed for 10 weeks, practicing four hours daily. If you look at me in the film, I’m so thin. It’s all Vaibhavi ma’am’s (choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant) magic,” he said.
He then said that despite his intense preparation, the film’s editor cut his performance and only kept wide shots to avoid focusing on his dance moves. “Shweta mam cut everything in that song, I was looking so good in it. She didn’t keep one mid-shot of mine. She has only kept wide to close shoots,” he added.
Loveyapa releases in theatres this Friday.
