Isha Koppikar plays the role of a mother in the diploma project of film students from Subhash Ghai’s Whistling Woods International. A first look poster from the film, titled Rocketship, was shared on Tuesday.
In the poster, Isha is seen along with her on-screen daughter in what seems to be a tender moment from the film. It is described as a “slice-of-life” drama which has been directed by the student filmmaker Arjun Menon, produced by Harmanraai Singh Sehgal, and shot by Bhagwat Purohit.
Speaking about being part of the film, Isha said in a statement, “When I was approached by the students, I was more than happy and willing to help them out with the project. These students have immense potential and that became very evident when they narrated the story and the script to me. I relate to these kids because they are starting from the scratch, just like I did. I had no Godfather in the industry. So, to see them build their dreams from the beginning, is more than motivating and fulfilling for me."
Isha had recently opened up about ageing and finding work in the industry and said that age shouldn’t be seen as a limitation but as a valuable asset. “With time comes a deeper emotional understanding. That can bring something truly special to a character. There’s so much value in reflecting a variety of perspectives. When we include characters who are older, we’re giving audiences more authentic, relatable stories,” she said.
The actor is known for her roles in films like Don (2006), Kya Kool Hai Hum (2005), and Krishna Cottage (2004) among others. She also starred alongside Telugu superstar Nagarjuna in Chandralekha (1998) and revealed how during a scene she was slapped by the veteran actor 14 times. “I was a fully committed actor that I want to perform in a real, method way. So when he was slapping me, I couldn’t feel it. This was my second film, so I told him, ‘Nag, you really slap me.’ He said, ‘Are you sure? No, I can’t.’ I said, ‘I want that feeling. I am not feeling it right now,’” recalled Isha.
Isha was last seen in the science-fiction Tamil film, Ayalaan which was directed by R. Ravikumar. She made her Hindi film debut with the Hrithik Roshan starrer Fiza in 2000.
