Actor Piloo Vidyarthi, who played a pivotal role in Sarzameen, said that Ibrahim Ali Khan ‘needs to have some more depth’.  She expressed her displeasure over the film and said that majority of her role in the patriotic family-drama was cut during editing.

In an interview with News18, Piloo said that she was disappointed after watching the film, “The makers have gone wrong somewhere because the director struggled to piece together the narrative. They didn’t retain even 20 per cent of what was shot. I was disappointed, so I’m not promoting the film as well. Yes, we can talk about it since it was released, but I wasn’t used at all. These things happen in our journey, so that’s okay. But yes, it’s disappointing when you prepare for a role and it’s reduced to nothing." She played the role of a nanny-like figure in the film.

Speaking about Ibrahim, Piloo said, “Acting depends on your life experiences—how you have lived your life. He was very nice to me, clicked photos. But I think he needs to have some depth. Star kids are also under a lot of pressure to live up to their parents. And Ibrahim comes from a family of big achievers. They have seen attention since forever. No one is bad.”

Helmed by Boman Irani’s son, Kayoze Irani, Sarzameen also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran and Kajol in pivotal roles. The film explores a father-son relationship in the background of militancy in Kashmir. Produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, it was released directly on JioHotstar and received negative reviews.

This was Ibrahim's second film after the romantic-comedy Nadaaniyan, which came out earlier this year and also starred Khushi Kapoor in the lead alongside him. In an interview with CE earlier, Kayoze, who has been associated Dharma Productions, spoke about the trolling Ibrahim received for Nadaaniyan and said that that they are all learning from the mistakes. “We will do our best to rectify them in future. As for Ibrahim, I am proud of him as an actor. He will answer his critics with his work,” he added.
