Shah Rukh Khan is a master of smart replies apart from being a superstar. His signature wit was at display again when politician Shashi Tharoor congratulated Shah Rukh for his National Award win and the actor had a cheeky response ready.

Congratulating Shah Rukh, Tharoor wrote, “A National Treasure wins a National Award! Congratulations.”

To this, Shah Rukh replied, “Thank u for the simple praise Mr Tharoor… would not have understood something more magniloquent and sesquipedalian… ha ha.”

For the unversed, Tharoor’s use of English has become a pop-culture phenomenon. The eloquent politician and writer is known for using some complex words in his language which have become a face of memes in recent years.

Shah Rukh won the honour for Best Actor at the 71st National Film Awards announced on Friday. He won the award for his performance in Jawan. The superstar shared the award with Vikrant Massey for 12th Fail while Rani Mukerji bagged the Best Actress award for Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway.

It marks Shah Rukh’s first National Award in his entire career of 33 years where he has delivered hard-hitting performances in films like Swades (2004), Chak De! India (2007) and Veer-Zaara (2004) among others.

The actor has been receiving congratulatory messages since the awards were announced. His long-time collaborator and friend, Karan Johar wrote a long note on social media wishing the actor. “This has been 33 years in the making and I can't help but beam with pride. Redefining Indian cinema with every role you take on...Jawan and all your other films are only testament to what an exceptional actor you are, to light every screen you walk in with your swag, charm and just...SRK-ness.”
