Kamal Haasan congratulates National Award winners, calls Shah Rukh Khan's recognition "long overdue"
Actor Kamal Haasan took to his X handle to pen a note of congratulations for the 71st National Award winners which were announced on Friday. He expressed his love and appreciation for Ramkumar Balakrishnan and Harish Kalyan's Parking which won three awards: Best Film in Tamil, Best Supporting Actor for MS Bhaskar and Best Screenplay.
He also lauded GV Prakash Kumar for winning his second National Award, this time for Best Music Direction for the Tamil-Telugu bilingual Vaathi, and Urvashi for bagging Best Supporting Actress for Ullozhukku. He also mentioned his appreciation for Meenakshi Soman and Saravanamaruthu for their documentary Little Wings.
Coming to Bollywood films, he congratulated Shah Rukh Khan for his National Award win for Best Actor for Jawan and said that his recognition was "long overdue" for his "stellar impact on world cinema".
"12th Fail was a masterpiece that moved me deeply. It dignified struggle and inspired millions. Congratulations Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Vikrant Massey on this well deserved honour," he wrote for Vikrant Massey and the team of 12th Fail. Kamal also said Rani Mukherjee's portrayal in Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway was both "fierce and fragile," extending his wishes for her Best Actress victory.
Kamal Haasan, who was last seen in Mani Ratnam's Thug Life which saw the actor-director reuniting after 38 years. The film, unfortunately failed to make a mark at the box office and was met with lukewarm response from audiences. Up next, he has the untitled KH 237, directed by stunt choreographer duo Anbariv which is expected to go on floors this month.
The actor had recently taken oath as a member of parliament for Rajya Sabha.
