Isha Koppikar opened up recently about ageing and finding work in the industry and said that age shouldn’t be seen as a limitation but as a valuable asset. Known for her roles in Don, Kya Kool Hai Hum, and Krishna Cottage, Isha weighed in on how the industry approaches age, particularly in casting decisions.
Giving an example of the 2019 film, Saand Ki Aankh, Isha said, “They made the film with youngsters in it, and Neena Gupta had also said that if you have written a role for a 50-year-old or a 60-year-old woman, then why are you casting and portraying 30-year-old girls as old? Why not take actors who have proven that they are really good, talented actors? Why are you not taking them now? Why do you think they are jaded?"
Isha believes that age can enrich a performance. “With time comes a deeper emotional understanding. That can bring something truly special to a character. There’s so much value in reflecting a variety of perspectives. When we include characters who are older, we’re giving audiences more authentic, relatable stories.”
She added, “Age shouldn't be seen as a limitation but as a valuable asset. It’s about telling stories that feel real and allow actors of all ages to shine.”
The actor had recently opened up about working with Nagarjuna in Chandralekha. She revealed how during a scene she was slapped by the veteran actor 14 times. “I was a fully committed actor that I want to perform in a real, method way. So when he was slapping me, I couldn’t feel it. This was my second film, so I told him, ‘Nag, you really slap me.’ He said, ‘Are you sure? No, I can’t.’ I said, ‘I want that feeling. I am not feeling it right now,’” recalled Isha.
Isha was last seen in the science-fiction Tamil film, Ayalaan which was directed by R. Ravikumar. She made her Hindi film debut with the Hrithik Roshan starrer Fiza in 2000.
