Akshay Kumar has confirmed that there will be a third installment to the Kesari franchise. During the trailer launch of Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh, in New Delhi on Thursday, Akshay also revealed who the protagonist for the third film would be.

“We have to prepare for Kesari 3 now. Aaj subah hi baat karahe the iss baare mein (This morning only we were discussing it) We are thinking of making it on Hari Singh Nalwa, what do you guys say? Punjab ka roop dikhaayenge sabko. (We will show Punjab’s might to everyone),” the actor said at the event.

Hari Singh Nalwa was a general in the Sikh Empire under Maharaja Ranjit Singh. He served as the Governor of Kashmir, Hazara and Peshawar and gained popularity for his triumphs against the Afghans. In fact, Nalwa played a significant role in blocking Afghan attacks on Punjab through the Khyber Pass. He also played a major role in the battles of Kasur, Sialkot, Attock, Multan, Kashmir, Peshawar, and Jamrud.

Kesari Chapter 2 is based on the case fought by lawyer and Nationalist leader C Sankaran Nair against the British Empire in the aftermath of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

It is a spiritual successor to the 2019 film Kesari, which also starred Akshay in the lead and told the story of the Battle of Saragarhi, where 21 Sikh soldiers fought against an army of 10,000 troops.

Produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Aruna Bhatia, Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Amritpal Singh Bindra and Anand Tiwari, Kesari Chapter 2 will be released in theatres on April 18.
