Aamir Khan, who served as a producer on Laapataa Ladies, has responded to the film being selected as the country’s official entry for the 97th Academy Awards.
In a statement, the actor said, “We are all so happy with the news. I am so proud of Kiran and her entire team. My heartfelt gratitude to our audience, our media, and the entire film fraternity, for all the love and support they have given to Laapataa Ladies.”
“Thanks to both Jio and Netflix who have been great partners to work with. I am so happy that all our hard-work has paid off. Here’s hoping that Laapataa Ladies is able to win the hearts of the members of the Academy,” he added.
Other films that were considered for the official entry were Hanuman, Kalki 2898 AD, Aattam, All We Imagine As Light, Vaazhai, Thangalaan, Chandu Champion, Sam Bahadur, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, Maidaan and Joram.
Previously, two of Aamir’s films Lagaan (2001) and Taare Zameen Par (2007), have been selected for the Oscars.
Directed by Kiran Rao, Laapataa Ladies features Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Nitanshi Goel and Ravi Kishan, among others.
