Shabana Azmi will be honoured at the International Film Festival of South Asia (IFFSA) Toronto 2024. The veteran actor completed 50 years in the Hindi film industry this year. IFFSA will pay tribute to Shabana during its 13th edition, honouring her extraordinary contributions to cinema.

Shabana made her Hindi film debut in 1974 with Shyam Benegal’s Ankur, which is a landmark film of the parallel cinema movement. Her powerful portrayal in the film quickly established her as one of the leading actresses working in art films. She is known for working in films like Arth (1982), Masoom (1983), Dharavi (1992) and Sparsh (1980) among others.

She has won five National Film Awards for Best Actress and five Filmfare Awards along with several international honors. In 1988, she was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian honor in India, for her contributions to Indian cinema. 

Recently, her work has been appreciated in films like Neerja (2016), Ghoomer (2023) and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani (2023)
