Kangana Ranaut’s much-delayed political-drama Emergency will be released in theatres on January 17, 2025, she announced on Monday. The film was earlier scheduled to release on September 6 but didn’t get a CBFC certificate after a Sikh group claimed that they weren’t being depicted in a fair light in the film.

Kangana shared a poster of the film to make the announcement and wrote in caption, “17th January 2025 – The epic saga of the nation’s most powerful woman and the moment that altered India’s destiny. Emergency – Unveils Only in cinemas on 17.01.2025!”

The film is directed by Kangana and is based on the life of the late prime minister Indira Gandhi who had imposed a nationwide emergency in 1975. It also stars Anupam Kher, Satish Kaushik, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade and Vishak Nair. Noted writer Ritesh Shah has penned the screenplay and dialogue of the film.
