Ektaa Kapoor spoke about The Sabarmati Report recently at the trailer launch of the film and said that it doesn’t show just one facet about the real-incident but the first facet. The Vikrant Massey starrer revolves around the death of 59 karsevaks (RSS workers) in a fire on the Sabarmati Express at the Godhra railway station in Gujarat on the morning of February 27, 2002. Following the incident, communal violence erupted across the state of Gujarat, leading to death of more than 1000 people.

At the trailer launch earlier, Ektaa said, "This is not just the one facet, but the first facet. So, we are telling the genesis of this first facet without undermining the other facets. Unfortunately, this facet, how it all started, has not been reported enough."

The film also stars Ridhi Dogra and Raashii Khanna in pivotal roles. It was earlier directed by Ranjan Chandel, who left the project midway citing creative differences. It is written by Avinash Singh Tomar and Arjun Bhandegaonkar with dialogues by Dheeraj. Produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, Amul V Mohan and Anshul Mohan, the film is set to be released in theatres on November 15.
